BACARDÍ® LEGACY COCKTAIL COMPETITION
GLOBAL FINALS POSTPONED
The competition, scheduled to take place in Miami the first week of May, will be postponed until further notice
HAMILTON, BERMUDA, 16 March 2020 – As a precaution due to COVID-19, BACARDÍ will postpone the 12th annual BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition, one of the world’s most prestigious cocktail competitions, until further notice. The competition was scheduled to take place May 1st -7th in Miami, FL.
Taking into consideration The World Health Organization’s assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a global pandemic, BACARDÍ made the difficult but necessary decision to halt any further plans for the competition in line with the density reduction and social distancing guidelines being set forth by public health organizations.
“In coordination with our local authorities and public health officials BACARDÍ has made this decision to safeguard the health and well-being of everyone involved in the BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition – from our finalists to our hotel and bar partners,” said Ned Duggan, Global SVP, BACARDÍ Rum. “This remains an ever-evolving and challenging situation, but we should all do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19.”
“It’s a sad day at BACARDÍ as we won’t be able to celebrate the amazing work of our 41 Legacy finalists in May as planned, but our main priority is to ensure the safety of our vibrant community,” said Jacob Briars, Global Advocacy Director for Bacardi. “Our finalists have been working incredibly hard for the last year to prepare for the finals in Miami. We are working on plans to continue to shine a spotlight on the 2020 Legacy finalists, their Legacy cocktails and their bars around the world and will update with more details soon.”

A ‘Legacy cocktail’ is more than just a great tasting drink: it is a drink that stands the test of time and becomes established in the industry.
The Legacy Cocktail Competition aims to challenge bartenders from around the US to find the BACARDÍ® rum cocktail with the greatest potential to establish itself as a classic and join the pantheon of BACARDÍ® Legacy cocktails alongside the Mojito, Daiquirí and Old Cuban before it.
Throughout the competition, bartenders will be tasked to establish and promote their cocktail in the drinks industry through its recipe submission and challenges. Cocktail recipes and campaign challenges will be judged and scored to find those with the most potential to become the next BACARDÍ® classic cocktail.
The Competition is open only to bartenders who:
(a) are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia
(b) are at least twenty-one (21) years old as of the date of entry
(c) work in a bar at least 20 hours per week at the time of entry
Exclusions: Individuals who are full- or part-time employees of Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, Bacardi U.S.A., Inc. (“BUSA”), or New Team LLC (“Team Enterprises”) at the time of entry, as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of those employees, are not eligible to enter.
Tales of the Cocktail Foundation will decide in its sole discretion whether the applications fulfil these entry requirements.
